Senior Full Stack Engineer | San Francisco or Seattle
The Climate Corporation is looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to work on building efficient, robust, distributed Services and User Interfaces that enable scientists to quantify and visualize weather risks and inform agricultural models. This tightly-knit team tackles a wide variety of challenges, including building complex transactional workflow, robust REST based services, sophisticated webapps and implementing user experiences that make working with big data tractable and fun.
What you will do:
use Rails 3.2, Ruby 1.9.3, backbone.js
work in a Service-Oriented Architecture environment
employ test-driven development with a high level of automation, a rapid release schedule, and continuous integration
participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and the occasional ping-pong game
Develop and refine scalable, fault-tolerant services for terabytes of geo-spatial and other data
Contribute to the technical and entrepreneurial communities via Open Source projects, blog posts and other activities (we use 25% of our time on own projects)
What you bring to the table:
experience building transactional systems with Rails, Ruby, Javascript, MySQL
experience with deployment in large cloud based distributed environments and are familiar with the associated challenges. intuitively understand web technologies and web application architectures
are creative, self-motivated and able to prioritize & get things done
have contributed to an open source effort. write elegant, maintainable and easy-to-follow code
BS, MS or equivalent in Computer Science or related technical field
at least 3 years of experience developing web apps in Ruby, Python, Java or Clojure
familiar with RSpec, Cucumber
team player who feels at home in an open and flat-structured environment, and takes pride in a job well done
Proficiency in a Unix/Linux environment
Effective all-round engineer who writes well-structured, easily maintainable, well-documented code
Analytical thinker who takes delight in choosing the right algorithms and data structure
Bonus points:
Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, SQS, etc.)
Knowledge of functional programming
Experience with Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)
Experience building big data (e.g. hadoop, cascalog, nosql) solution.
Contributor to open-source projects
