Job Description:
The New York Times is looking for a talented full-stack web developer to enhance it's industry leading mobile products. Responsibilities will include both frontend and backend duties requiring expert knowledge in XHTML, CSS and JavaScript as well as experience with NodeJS on the server-side. Extensive experience in creating and maintaining large scale, high availability systems is a must. Candidate should be comfortable with Linux-based operating systems and experienced in Bash scripting. Responsibilities include implementing new features for two NYTimes mobile products, site maintenance, test automation and technical documentation. Strong communication skills are a must as this position interacts extensively with many cross-functional departments within the New York Times.
Qualifications:
7-10 years of experience in web development
Expert-level JavaScript ability, including in-depth knowledge of jQuery and Backbone
Expert-level CSS2, CSS3, XHTML, and HTML5
Experience with NodeJS and Express library for NodeJS
Firm grasp of cross-browser JS and CSS complexities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
Ability to manage one's time effectively to meet multiple deadlines
Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team depending on need
Experience developing single page HTML5 applications
Experience maintaining production systems
Nice to have:
Experience writing CoffeeScript
Experience with Varnish or other caching systems
Experience working in a newsroom or media environment
Experience working in an Agile web development environment
Experience with web design and/or UX design
Experience building mobile websites and/or applications
Experience writing automated tests preferably for frontend and backend JavaScript applications
Experience with grunt task runner
