As our game continues its explosive growth, we’re looking for someone that can help us deliver Prodigy to an ever-expanding audience. In the next year, our company will expand to over 1 million students and release an HTML5 version of Prodigy to dramatically increase accessibility. The HTML5 version is already well under way, but there are a number of infrastructure components that must be scaled before Prodigy can meet its growth targets.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and dramatically improving our network’s infrastructure, which is currently built on Windows Azure. You’ll also be working closely with the game development team to provide support for new game features such as Player-vs-Player and global competitions between schools.

Here are some of the key tasks you can expect to complete in the first 3 months on the job:

  • Develop and implement a scaling plan based on representative load tests and ensure that all components are able to handle projected growth given usage patterns

  • Shard the user database to handle growth in different geographic regions

  • Investigate Node.js as an alternative to Prodigy’s current gameserver

  • Implement proper error logging and alerting on all components to highlight problems and enable root cause analysis. Prodigy’s Cloud sites, services, databases, and VMs all require monitoring and optimization

  • Help plan releases that minimize downtime and ensure that the game can be easily rolled back in the event of a problem
