New Relic

Full Stack Software Engineer, Synthetics

Phoenix Area, AZ or Portland, OR

New Relic is software analytics. Fueled by real-time data from production software, we provide clear, actionable intelligence about high-velocity web and mobile applications and their end-users. Our first, and very successful, SaaS tool for such analytics monitors real-time traffic from real users. The Next New Thing for New Relic is monitoring real-time traffic from synthetic users. As one of the engineering team building this feature, you'll be inventing the architecture, building the code, and of course monitoring it all by "drinking our own champagne".

Some of the things we work on:

  • How to make the process of scripting a browser more fun and less painful

  • How to present large amounts of browser metrics to customers in a simple but meaningful way

  • How to orchestrate hundreds of browsers running synthetic transactions across the globe and ensure that all transactions are both reliable and properly sandboxed

  • How to ensure that we’re capturing all possible transaction metrics even if they appear not meaningful at first

  • Skills & Experience that are relevant to us:

  • Experience with browser automation technologies such as Selenium/Webdriver, QTP, PhantomJS, Zombie.js, etc.

  • Open source contributions

  • Experience in a backend language like Java, Ruby, Python, or Node.js (but to be honest, we mainly use Java)

  • Experience building front-end Javascript applications (we use Angular)

  • A web app or API that you have played a key role shipping

  • Success at working on small teams

  • To fast track your application, in your cover letter please tell us about the most impressive thing you've made and send us examples to apps you've built and code you've posted to Github.  And if your resume doesn't explain why synthetics are a passion, you should add that to your cover letter as well.
