Coursera is an educational platform that serves the best courses from top universities to millions of students for free. We embrace learning at scale: our platform features massive courses of 100K+ students, automated and crowd-sourced grading and advanced identity verification. On the operations side of things, we run 100% on AWS and have fully-automated push-button deployment to production. As our first “official” DevOps Engineer, you’d be the backbone of our platform’s integrity, ensuring that our students have a fast and reliable learning experience.
Some of the projects you’d be working on are:
- Identify the most likely reasons for Coursera to go down
- Audit latency of all our internal and public APIs, then write a tool to verify that their SLA going forward
- Implement a disaster recovery solution, be involved in our multi-region rollout
- Alert-a-thon: add fine-tuned alerting of our backend systems driven by existing metrics and PagerDuty alerts
- Define our new network topology as we migrate to AWS VPC
