Job Description

The Ad Developer will join a small but fast-paced marketing team with a scrappy attitude and a love for the creative process. He/she will play an integral role in developing and executing new ad products on qz.com that allow clients to showcase their most engaging content and infographics, and encourage readers to interact, share, and click. The position requires core strategy, problem-solving and deep understanding of mobile and website development, including cross-browser compatibility, performance tuning of UI/JavaScript applications, and user experience. The position will report to Quartz’s Sr. Manager, Mktg Client Services.


Responsibilities include:



  • Execute on direct outputs from the FY marketing strategy

  • Develop and maintain bold, market-leading custom creative ad products, that define their own unique standard on the web, for select clients to showcase their most engaging content (e.g. infographics, video, data, etc.) directly mapped to their measurement of success (based on client KPIs) such as engagement, interactions, shares, clicks, leads, etc.

  • Provide thought leadership on new product innovations and creative ideas, and proactively bring them from idea to execution for clients and partners

  • Problem solve on creative, development and other hurdles that are barriers to sale

  • Liaise and collaborate across the department as the expert on mobile and web development, browser capabilities, performance tuning of UI/Javascript applications and UX, new engineering technologies , etc.

  • Build and maintain templating database of ideas to showcase to clients, and develop sold ads at ultimate efficiency

  • Develop coding, naming convention tactics and maintain pristine code notes, file and organization system in an effort to streamline internal process with markets, technology team, and ad ops

  • Collaborate with ad ops during QA process

  • Continually identify emerging trends in social media and online advertising, and work proactively to turn them into innovative new platforms
