The global mobile app economy was valued at $68B in 2013 and is expected to rise to over $140B by 2016. The bulk of the growth is projected to come from Asia Pacific and Latin American regions, the fastest growing in terms of smart phone penetration. The majority of app users will not be native English speakers, yet the vast majority of mobile apps today are English-only or have been localized into at most one other language. Localization is too hard, and requires significant ongoing investment of time and resources from app developers, placing it out of reach for most.
