OVERVIEW:
We are offering very good rates for two freelance technologists who can join our group for three months, starting as soon as possible, to assist in the final phase of our latest project. This is a mobile handheld device that displays text data about its location, drawn from a variety of 'big data' sites. The intention is that the information will not only inform people about where they are, but also spur reflection about a range of sociocultural and political issues.
We have a fully realised design for the mobile device and are planning to batch produce a run of 130 units. Casings for the device are in production and we are approaching a final revision of the PCB. We have server architecture in place and many of the modules for data handling are fully coded.
This is an ambitious and exciting project, and we expect it will get a lot of international attention. Not only that, but we're a nice bunch of people to work with! TECHNICAL DETAILS:
- The hardware has been developed using the Microsoft Gadgeteer platform and is a bespoke PCB featuring a 32bit ARM processor and a GSM module for handling GPRS data traffic.
- The server uses a number of onboard static databases plus a number of live sources that are gathered on the fly using various API’s to construct the message stream for each of the 130 devices.
