Salary range: £30196 to £38088pa plus excellent benefits. Closing date: 20th July 2014
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced web developer to work as part of the Sanger Institute Core Web Team on the Decipher project (decipher.sanger.ac.uk).
The Decipher project has entered another exciting expansion phase due in part to the success of the associated Deciphering Developmental Disorders (DDD) project (www.ddduk.org). The entire project encompasses a patient tracking LIMS system for lab-based analysis which populates the Decipher database via its website allowing further addition of genotypic and phenotypic information and data by clinicians and cytogeneticists. The website encapsulates its own genome browser, genoverse (www.genoverse.org) and a number of integrated in-house bioinformatics tools allied to closely integrated external resources such as Ensembl (www.ensembl.org). The website has a current portfolio of over 31,500 patients drawn from over 240 clinical centres of excellence worldwide which continues to grow rapidly. As the Decipher project now moves into the realm of the personal genome it has its focus on patient exome sequencing and analysis. Not only to accommodate this move towards sequence level analysis and rapidly increasing patient numbers, the project is embarking on a strategy for a multi datacentre presence for its business continuity planning.
The Decipher project software is written in a combination of Perl/HTML/CSS/JS with a SQL database hosting the data all within a VMware infrastructure. To facilitate this expansion we are seeking to employ a senior web developer to join the team who would feel comfortable working on aspects of both frontend and backend development but could be a specialist in one of the above. Although the website framework is written in PERL we are seeking a motivated web developer whose main coding language does not necessarily have to be PERL. The successful candidate will work as part of the Sanger web team from where bioinformatics support will be made available.
