The job itself is Java development. We have a lot of applications and frameworks already in place, and are always looking to expand them as well as kickoff new projects. We’ve built our systems on all kinds of open source goodies like Apache Camel, ActiveMQ, MongoDB, Redis, Neo4j and PSQL. All of our data collection, handling and transport is handled by Java. We’ve built a queried and realtime API both in Java. Do you love Jersey? Because we do, almost as much as we love our cats. All of our frontend is handled by RoR and JS, though we did make an applet once just to burn it.
So what is the job specifically? It’s whatever needs doing, but also what you are interested in doing. We just finished laying the groundwork for an alerting service to support all of our products and future mobile goals. Before that it was a realtime API complement to our queried API. Up next is continuing build out these, as well as enhancements to data collection and processing. Have you ever done complex event processing (Esper)? How about natural language processing? We’ve got plenty of work in those domains as well.
