Sky are recruiting
Hi there, in the sky technology team we have a passion for engaging, interesting and exciting software development. Maybe this is what you are looking for?
Web developer with excellent front end skills
We've been delivering great websites and web applications for over 10 years and have a constant supply of interesting projects on the horizon. We recently won best media and entertainment site for 2013 in the web awards by beating YouTube! We look for developers who have a passion for technology and a constant desire to improve and learn more skills. We are currently in short supply of people who are good at hand coding website front ends. If the following interest or maybe even excite you, then you are the kind of person we are looking for:
Requirements:
* Native Javascript & frameworks like jQuery
* HTML5
* CSS3, especially responsive design
* Accessibility
* Users experience & Interface design
* Automated testing
Nice to have:
* Experience working on modular libraries
* SASS, Atomic design approach
* BEM notation
* Knowledge of Node.js, Angular.js
All our developers are encouraged to work on the front end and back end of the sites and apps but we like to have a balance of experts in different areas to help spread the knowledge. The ideal candidate has a passion for engineering and keeps up to date with the latest developments and frameworks in the front end arena.
Our current technology stack includes JavaScript, jQuery, CSS3, HTML5, Scala, Ruby, Sinatra, Groovy, Grails and Cucumber. We regularly explore new technologies and frameworks so getting complacent is not an option.
Working for one of the UK's top employers, BSkyB (that's us), you get a shiny new MacBook, free Sky TV and Broadband, training opportunities and conferences paid for you amongst other great benefits. All this to do something you enjoy and have a passion for. You would be the 6th developer in the small, cross functional scrum team in our west London office. Your work will help to shape the future of sky's website. One of the things our team are currently looking after and enhancing is sky homepage which gets over 50 million views each month, so your code is consumed by a pretty big audience. The second big thing we do is the sky global toolkit. The toolkit is a component library and style guide that works a little like twitter bootstrap but for sky. It helps literally dozens of teams at sky rapidly build pages, sites and apps. So the code has to be top quality and completely accessible for users with access needs like keyboard users and screen reader etc. This presents lots of exciting front end challenges for our devs.
