Skyscanner obtains data from multiple web scrapers, API feeds and external data sources to power its front end website. Working as part of an energetic and intelligent team of developers helps ensure these web scrapers and data sources are reliably providing accurate data and users are linked to 3rd party sites.
As the primary technical point of contact for an important part of our systems, the Data Acquisition team pride themselves on understanding and successfully delivering the business requirements of all departments.
- Ensuring that travel prices on the Skyscanner site are accurate and up-to-date
- Creating seamless redirects to third party websites
- Assisting with the maintenance of existing scrapers and data sources
- Increasing our global coverage of travel and price data
- Liaising with 3rd parties over new integrations and price consistency
- Working with test teams to validate/verify quality of solutions
- Enhancing our Python web scraping platform with new features
- Development and maintenance of the team’s internal tools and monitoring
- Mentoring and encouraging other engineers in development best practices and throughout projects
Every day is different and can have a unique set of challenges ranging from dealing with the implementation of data collection from new websites, fixing and maintenance of existing sites, as well as the setup of all tracking associated with our business model. Data Acquisition also manage and maintain our relationships with the Global Distribution Systems (GDS) that provide pricing information for a variety of our partners.
This role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Remote working is available.
