At SpanishDict, we use state-of-the art computer science to dramatically improve the way people learn a foreign language. Last year more than 60 million unique visitors came to our site, making it the world’s largest Spanish learning website.  Now, we’re building Fluencia, a new adaptive learning platform that uses the power of big data to personalize the path to proficiency for every user.

The front-end is as an essential component of a single-page app like Fluencia, and we take it very seriously. Ours is built on technologies such as Backbone, Require, Handlebars, LESS, and jQuery, towards a goal of delivering a low-friction, high-performing experience that is a pleasure to use.

Our Node.js backend allows libraries to be seamlessly shared between the frontend and backend. We pride ourselves on an engineering culture committed to rapid iteration, broad test coverage, extensive automation, and fast deployments. If you’re a top-notch front-end engineer interested in joining a smart and driven team, SpanishDict may be the place for you.

What you’d do

Because we’re a small team, as a front-end engineer with SpanishDict and Fluencia, you’d work on a variety of projects including:

  • client-side MVC application built in Backbone.js that provides an incredibly responsive user-experience

  • An interactive game-like interface that incorporates CSS3 animations and HTML5 audio to create engaging learning activities

  • Responsive design that ensures users receive an outstanding experience no matter the screen size or device type

  • Integration tests that ensure everything works for millions of users, all the time
